Minute Devotions – What’s your worth?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 ESV How much do you believe you are worth? Do you believe that you are valuable and worthy? Or do you believe that you are unimportant and not deserving of happiness and love? Many people find it hard to accept that they are valuable and worthy; worthy to be respected and loved and listened to and cared for. But you are worthy. You are valuable. You are important. How do I know this? … Continue reading Minute Devotions – What’s your worth?

Minute Devotions – Consider Him

For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls – Hebrews 12:3 NKJV Consider Him. Consider Him who created you. Consider Him who created the heavens and the earth. Consider Him who makes the sun go up each day. Consider Him who has placed every star in the sky and calls each one by name. Consider Him who knew you from before you were born. Consider Him who left heaven and came down to earth to walk among us and show us the way to heaven. Consider Him who … Continue reading Minute Devotions – Consider Him

Minute Devotions: In silence and solitude

In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there – Mark 1:35 I am someone that enjoys being alone. While I like being around people, I am just as content being by myself, and so I tend to spend a lot of time alone with my thoughts. So when I was challenged the other day to carve out time and sit in silence with God, I thought it would be pretty easy. I was wrong. Sitting in silence and waiting on God may … Continue reading Minute Devotions: In silence and solitude

Minute Devotions: A time of waiting

Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! – Psalms 27:14 Waiting is one of the hardest things to do. Especially when you are waiting for something you really want; a job, a test result, a prayer answered. While waiting is hard, it is also a necessary part of our life as it builds our resilience and patience. It also builds our faith as it requires a lot of trust in God. It requires us to stop striving to fix or change things and to trust that God has it under control. … Continue reading Minute Devotions: A time of waiting

Minute Devotions: Hiding Place

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word. Psalm 119:144   One of my favourite games as a child was hide and seek. When it was my turn to hide, I would seek out the best place that I could hide in that also allowed me to see or hear when the seeker was coming. I used to find it really comforting being hidden but still being able to see and hear what was going on; it was as if I was wrapped in an invisible blanket. That’s what its like when we turn to God. In the … Continue reading Minute Devotions: Hiding Place

Finding God in the darkness.

A few years ago, I was given the privileged to volunteer in an Indigenous community in far north Queensland. I was to be a teacher’s aide for classes one and two, which I was excited about because I love children and spending a few weeks playing teacher was a nice break from the corporate world I was in. I prepared as best as I could and was sent on my way with another lady, both full of excitement, talking about all the things we would do and how fun it would be. Until we landed. On arrival all excitement fled … Continue reading Finding God in the darkness.

Minute Devotions: Walking on Water

And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”  He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. – Matthew 14:28-29 How would you feel about walking on water? Not standing on ice, but walking across moving and flowing water? In the bible, we read about Jesus calling Peter out of the boat to walk towards him on the sea, and Peter did it. He stepped out and walked towards Jesus on flowing water without sinking. And then he took his … Continue reading Minute Devotions: Walking on Water

Unchanging

And just like that, the new year has well and truly come and gone. The celebrations have settled down, the streamers have been pulled down, along with the Christmas decorations (mine, anyway) and everyone has gotten back into the daily grind. For many, the changing of the calendar is a time to reset. A second chance. A new beginning. A time to hope and dream and visualise all that could be. To say goodbye to what was and usher in a new season. While we are almost at the end of January, I am still reading many new year posts … Continue reading Unchanging

Minute Devotions: Eyes wide open.

Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law – Psalm 119:18 NRSV God’s Word is full of so many wondrous and amazing things. Hidden treasures and sweet love letters, when God whispered His words into the hearts of the writers, He didn’t hold back. But we can’t just read the bible like an ordinary book, we need to dig deep within the words, we need the Holy Spirit to open our eyes and hearts to better understand God’s heart and will. When we read with our hearts, not just our eyes, we will see God’s … Continue reading Minute Devotions: Eyes wide open.

Minute Devotions: You are on His mind.

How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast the sum of them! Psalm 139:17 God thinks about you. Often. It’s hard to understand sometimes; the Creator of heaven and earth thinking about us, but He does. Before we were formed in our mother’s womb, God was thinking about us. He was designing us, our personality, looks, fingerprints, all designed by Him. From the moment He breathed us into existence, He has had His eyes on us and His thoughts on us. His thoughts towards us are pure and precious and innumerable. What a wonderful thought to know … Continue reading Minute Devotions: You are on His mind.
