Minute Devotions: Goodness of God

You are good and do good; Teach me Your statutes – Psalm 119:68

God is good. Let me say that again. God is good. It’s easy in the midst of pain and anger and confusion to doubt that, but He is. He is good, does good and wants what is good for us. And that’s the hardest part to believing that He’s a good God, because when our lives are a mess, or when our prayers go unanswered, or when we are surrounded by heartache and devastation, it’s hard to believe, really deep down to our soul, that God is good. It’s easy to say all the right things, but deep down, we doubt what we are saying. And that’s okay. Truly, it’s okay to have your doubts about God, because He knows what you are thinking anyway. And this is why He is good, because in the midst of our doubts, our anger at Him, or the cold shoulder we turn, He still loves us. He is still for us and is still working all things we lay at His feet for the good of those who love and trust Him.

So can I encourage you today to hold onto the truth that He is good; that He is a good, good Father. Because His heart is for you and whatever it is you are going through right now will pass, but His love never will.

Father, thank you for being a good, good Father that is for us; that loves us abundantly and is always working for our good. In the midst of our struggle, would you remind us of who You are, not our circumstances. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
