For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever and his faithfulness to all generations – Psalm 100:5
God is good. Once you encounter Jesus and encounter his love and mercy, it becomes crystal clear that God is good. When the world is not good, God is still good. When people hurt and betray us, God is still good.
That God, the great Creator, would be good to us, is a wonderful and comforting thought. But knowing that He also loves us with an endless love and is faithful to the generations that will come after us? That is almost too much to comprehend. Who are we that He would love us so?
But love us He does. And faithful He is. Because that is who He is. He is love and mercy and grace. He is kindness and faithfulness. He is tender and strong, ready to catch us when our foot slips.
To know God is to know a love like no other. It is to encounter unconditional love. It is knowing that He is for us and is working in the background of our lives, guiding and guarding us. Knowing God is knowing faithfulness in the face of unfaithfulness. We are fickle humans and can often turn away from God or neglect Him. But He never turns away. It may feel like we are alone sometimes, but He is there, right by our side.
Father, you are so good to us. Your love, kindness and faithfulness is more than we deserve. Thank you for how you love us. Thank you for being faithful when we aren’t and for loving us with an eternal love. We love you and honour you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
