Taste and See

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him – Psalm 34:8 Have you ever come across a meal or a drink that looked a bit sketchy and you were uncertain whether you wanted to try it, but then when you did, you’re surprised by how good it tastes. This is how I see this verse sometimes. Things happen or life throws you a curve-ball and you look at God and surrendering everything to Him can seem uncertain and a bit sketchy. I find myself wondering what would happen if I let … Continue reading Taste and See

Sounds of Worship: As you find me.

God loves us as He finds us, just as we are. Have you ever found yourself listening to a song only to have the lyrics take your breath away? When lyrics hit home so deeply that you feel like someone has taken your journal and turned it into a song? The other day as I listened to ‘As you find me’ by Hillsong United some of the lyrics hit home and put words to things I have been feeling recently: I have wrestled and I have trembled toward surrender Chased my heart adrift and drifted home again …… And every … Continue reading Sounds of Worship: As you find me.

Sounds of Worship: A Broken Song

Do you ever feel like a broken song playing on repeat? Sometimes I feel as if I’m a broken record, bringing the same tune to the Lord over and over. Help me, Lord; take away the pain, Lord; fix the situation, Lord; take away the loneliness, Lord; help me to do the right thing, Lord. I often wonder if God gets tired of hearing the same broken lyrics of my song. I know I do. But, God. God in His love and grace and gentleness reminded me through a song the other day that He welcomes my broken song. The … Continue reading Sounds of Worship: A Broken Song

Significance

You don’t need a significant other to be significant. Yes. Just, yes.   I think we need to have an honest discussion about this perception and belief that we’ve allowed to infiltrate our social norm that people are not complete on their own. When I saw this poster online, everything in me wanted to jump up and scream, YES! For as far back as I can remember, happily ever after and a ‘complete’ life was presented as being married with kids and having a house and a dog. For years Hollywood and books and social media have pushed this belief … Continue reading Significance

A year of hope.

Well, happy new year, folks. 2018 is well and truly behind us and we’ve settled into 2019. A new year, new opportunities and new seasons. I’ve been reflecting on 2018 and must say, it was a hard year. I remember sitting in a hotel in New Zealand towards the end of the year talking to a friend of mine in the US and she was praying for me. It was a sweet prayer, but one line stuck with me: “Lord, would you help her because she is battle weary.” Battle weary. As she prayed those words, I felt the weight … Continue reading A year of hope.

Christmas hope.

Yet another Christmas has come and gone for another year. For most of us, Christmas was spent with loved ones, sitting around a meal exchanging presents and just relaxing. It was spent attending church services and reading prayers and giving thanks. For many, it was a sweet day reflecting on the love of God, sent to us in the form of a baby born in a manger. While for many of us it was and is an exciting time of the year where we share love and laughter with those around us, for just as many, it’s a time of … Continue reading Christmas hope.

A little bit personal.

The other day as I was getting ready for work, I found myself feeling weary and tired. I was excited about my day, but feeling weary, I sat for a moment to read the scripture for the on my bible app. The verse of the day was psalm 46:1, which is a psalm that I really love, so I decided to read the whole thing and as I sat there reading, I felt a prompting to make it a bit more personal, so I read it over and replaced each ‘we’ with ‘me’ or ‘I’. (And no, I’m not changing … Continue reading A little bit personal.

Minute Devotions: Peace

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid – John 14:27 In a world that promotes instant gratification, craziness and endless to-do lists, peace can be hard to come by. It’s even harder to come by when our own personal world is thrown into chaos. But if there is one place we can find peace and rest from the storm, it’s at the feet of Jesus. Jesus offers us a peace that can’t be found anywhere … Continue reading Minute Devotions: Peace
