Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him – Psalm 34:8
Have you ever come across a meal or a drink that looked a bit sketchy and you were uncertain whether you wanted to try it, but then when you did, you’re surprised by how good it tastes. This is how I see this verse sometimes. Things happen or life throws you a curve-ball and you look at God and surrendering everything to Him can seem uncertain and a bit sketchy. I find myself wondering what would happen if I let go and give it Him, especially when it looks like the outcome can be different to what I want.
Yet, what history has shown me is that when I do things God’s way; when I surrender it to Him and let Him guide and lead me, I get a taste of his goodness. I get a taste of His grace. I get a taste of His peace and mercy and I realise that I should never have doubted Him in the first place. I realise that what looked a bit sketchy or daunting or unappealing actually ends up surprising me somehow. I either find myself surprised by how good it turns out, or I find myself encountering God in a deeper way. He never disappoints. Time and again I find that when I lean into Him, when I trust Him, I am tucked safely in the palm of his hand. He continuously shows up and shows me how kind and gracious He is and shows me that He is my safe space. My refuge that I can always run to and find shelter in. And it’s his kindness and gentleness with my heart that as me craving more time with Him and craving more of His love and goodness.
God is faithful and once we have a taste of His goodness, we will want more of it. Today, if life is looking sketchy or hard or outright impossible, can I encourage you to taste and see that He is good. Reach out to Him and rest in his arms and let him lead and guide you. And while it may not look like what you imagine, I can assure you that you will be held by the most loving arms and that He will lead you with love and tenderness.
