Minute Devotions: Fearless

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise – in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? Psalm 56:3-4 It is easy to be overwhelmed … Continue reading Minute Devotions: Fearless

I can’t remember.

I can’t remember… I can’t remember a time when I felt so disconnected and connected to the world. I can’t remember a time where I felt so content yet so restless about my life. A time when every answer to every question raised more questions. I can’t remember a time when I felt so much uncertainty about life yet stood on a rock-solid hope and assurance that my faith would catch me before I hit the ground. I can’t remember a time when my fear and my faith danced so intimately to a beat that I didn’t recognise; where they … Continue reading I can’t remember.

Get your brave on – Faith through my eyes.

When you think of bravery, what comes to mind? Do you imagine a firefighter rushing into a burning building? Or do you see a soldier at war fighting for their country? For the most part, when we think of bravery, we think lifesaving acts; acts of heroism by everyday men and women that restore our faith in humanity and make us feel good. Nervous and excited about…a feeling?

It’s Friday night in Boone and I am undecided with what to do with myself. I’m in my room trying to work out what to eat and where I should go; do I want a full meal or do I just want sweets and coffee? Do I want to go explore an unknown place or just go to one of the nearby places? First world problems, I know, but still a valid problem for someone like me who has around 12 meals a day. I’ve loved my time here so far. It’s a world away from Sydney and it’s peaceful and relaxing. … Continue reading Nervous and excited about…a feeling?

Fear of flying.

The other night I found myself sitting home alone flicking through the TV channels trying to find something to watch. I don’t generally watch much TV. If anything, I tend to watch it when I’m at a friend’s house or when someone has it on at home as I would rather read – or write. But this particular night I had finished reading my book and was bored, so decided to give the TV a shot. As I was flicking through I came across the movie Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds and decided to watch that because, well, Ryan … Continue reading Fear of flying.

When the known is scarier than the unknown.

‘It’s the fear of the unknown.’ I’ve heard that quote many times. Many times. It’s always been an interesting quote to me because I find the concept of fear interesting. Fear fascinates me and slightly terrifies me. To me, there is generally three types of fear: the fear of something, like snakes or spiders or penguins, and that’s a totally valid fear because snakes and spiders and penguins are the devils spawn. There is the fear that arises when you are in a dangerous situation where you could potentially get hurt. And there is the fear that stops you from … Continue reading When the known is scarier than the unknown.
