Cafe Stories – Excuse me, would you like some manners with your order?

Many moons ago, I worked as a waitress. I worked for a period of time in a cafe and in an RSL club. It was a job I enjoyed because it while i didn’t really challenge me mentally like some jobs do, it challenged me physically because you were run off your feet. A lot. The cafe I worked at was located in an outdoor shopping strip, so we had a lot of customers from the surrounding stores come in, and they always came in before work on during their lunch hour. But then we had the shoppers walk through, … Continue reading Cafe Stories – Excuse me, would you like some manners with your order?

Cafe Stories – Strangers in cafes

At the risk of being Captain Obvious when I say this, I tend to spend a lot of time in cafes alone. I enjoy it and find that I can really get my thoughts down on paper when I’m sitting in a café drinking coffee. Occasionally, I will go to a café and just sit and watch the world around me; not read or write or play with my phone, just watch. And when you stop and watch for long enough, you see some really interesting things. Recently when I was at a café alone just observing the people around … Continue reading Cafe Stories – Strangers in cafes

A new day has come.

Friday the 6th of March marked the day that my Mamma Bear reached the end of her breast cancer journey. On Friday the 6th of March, Mamma walked into the oncology ward for the last time and had her last hit of radiotherapy for breast cancer. After 8 months of treatment, we had finally reached the finish line; 16 blood tests, 16 hits of chemotherapy, 6 stomach injections and 20 hits of radiation were finally, FINALLY, behind us. 8 months later. And let me say, there was joy because it has been a long, hard, heartbreaking journey. On that day, … Continue reading A new day has come.

Cafe stories – staring.

As is probably evident by my many café stories posts, I frequent cafes often. And most of the time I go alone. I’m confortable going to a café and having coffee and a meal alone. I get to just sit back with my coffee and either write, read or observe people. And one of the things I observe is that people stare. A lot. Sometimes it’s obvious why people are staring at someone; they look different to everyone else, or they are talking loudly or acting in a way that draws attention. Some people stare because they are fascinated by … Continue reading Cafe stories – staring.

Games….Cafe Stories

There is a standard, unspoken agreement between my girlfriends (and some of my boy friends) and I when it comes to going on a date: we need to go and have a coffee and debrief. We need to discuss the date in detail; what was he wearing, where did we go, did he pay, what did we talk about, what did I wear, am I going to see him again…the list goes on and on. We sit and have multiple coffees, some cake (especially if it was a bad date) and we talk it through. We talk through the doubts … Continue reading Games….Cafe Stories

Cafe Stories – Brawlin

The other week I went to a local café with a friend of mine for dinner. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a little café that was attached to a shopping centre and surrounded by a few other cafes. We go there often because it’s local and they have reasonable food. And we go there to eat, drink coffee and chat. That’s usually what you do at a café, right? You sit and solve all the worlds’ problems over numerous cups of coffee and some food thrown in. You generally don’t go to a café to watch a punch up between … Continue reading Cafe Stories – Brawlin

Sisterhood Award

So I’ve been offline for the last week as I’ve been chilling out in Fiji (will blog about that soon) and came and here to have a looksie at what’s been going on while I’ve been away and found myself nominated for the Sisterhood-of-the-world-bloggers award by  https://thestrangeher.wordpress.com/2015/01/06/bittersweet-sensations so thanks for the nomination! Cafe stories.

I’m a coffee drinker. A big coffee drinker. And I like nothing more than going to one of my favourite cafes, ordering a coffee and either reading a book, or doing some writing. It’s something I do most days and it’s very relaxing for me because I’m left on my own with my coffee and my thoughts. However the last few cafe visits have been anything but relaxing because the last few times I’ve been, I’ve found myself sitting next to couples, which is usually fine, but these couples have been fighting, or breaking up. And it’s been awkard for all … Continue reading Cafe stories.

Waiting impatiently for dreams to come true

It’s my birthday next week and I’m feeling reflective, sort of. I was having a think today about how I’m feeling at the moment versus how I was feeling last year and found myself thinking back past last year’s birthday to the one before, and the one before that, and the one before that. There were a few to reflect on. But that’s beside the point. What struck me as I was going back in time was that for the however many years, I’ve sort of lived my life in advance, thinking about what my life will look like when … Continue reading Waiting impatiently for dreams to come true
