Minute Devotions: He is my refuge

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91

I love the imagery of God being a shelter and a refuge. God’s arms, as mighty and powerful as they are, bring so much gentle comfort. In His arms, we find peace and protection for our hearts. When our hearts are breaking from another heartache or betrayal, we can find comfort in His embrace. We can find assurance that we are loved because His love tends to our wounds and brings wholeness. When lies are formed against us, in His arms we can find the truth about who we really are; beloved child of the Most High God. With gentleness, He reminds us that we are seen, wanted and loved.

When we put our trust in the Most High God, the One that created the heavens and the earth, we will find rest for our souls. The shadow of the Almighty brings restoration. It brings redemption. It brings love and strength. God is for you. He loves you and wants to be your refuge and hiding place. The place you run to when life is trying to beat you down.

Today, can I encourage you to make time to rest in His presence. Take shelter in His refuge and let his love and peace wash over you.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for your love. Thank you for being a constant refuge for my heart and soul, a place where I am seen and wanted. Help me to rest in Your presence today and find comfort in your strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.
