Minute Devotions: Christ be magnified.

He must become greater; I must become less – John 3:30

Who does our life magnify? Is it Jesus, or is it ourselves? I think if we were all to answer that honestly, most of us would say that tend to feature as the star of our lives. I know that in my own life, more times than I care to admit, I have made it about me, not Jesus.

But this life isn’t about us. Yes, we feature heavily in the story of our life, but the end game isn’t to magnify ourselves, it’s to magnify Jesus. It is to point as many people as we possibly can to Jesus through our life. Our actions and words should all point people to Jesus. Why? Because no one is more deserving of praise and glory.

No one is as magnificent as Jesus. There is no one more kind and gracious and loving as our God. The One who created heaven and earth also breathed life into our lungs. He placed the stars in the sky and calls each one by name (Psalm 147:4). He loves us and cares for us and made a way for us to be in eternity with Him. Only He is worthy to be magnified and deserving of our adoration and praise.

Father, you are so worthy of our praise. You are deserving of our adoration. Let every breath we have glorify and magnify you. Create a spirit in us that seeks to love you, adore you and lift you high. May we become less so that you can become more. In Jesus’s name, amen.
