This morning as I sat with my coffee, I was listening to some worship and the song ‘It is Well‘ came on. It’s a song that I love. As I sat and listened to the lyrics, I asked myself, “is it well with my soul today?” There is a lot happening around me at the moment, some of which is really discouraging, but is it still well with my soul?
Despite what is happening around us, one thing is certain; God is still firmly in control and still sovereign over all. He still has us firmly in His sights. Nothing that is happening is too much for Him to handle or beyond His view. The Great I am (Exodus 3:14) is still the great I Am. He is still with us and still fighting for us.
In Psalm 46:10, He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” He is God, not us. He will be exalted for what He has and will do, not us. So we can sit back and know, with certainty, that He is still God. He is still seated on the Throne. And that means we can confidently say, “it is well with my soul,” because the One who made us and loves us with an everlasting love is still powerful enough to handle any situation we may find ourselves in, whilst still tenderly loving our soul.
Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you that we can confidently say, “it is well with my soul,” because you hold us in the palm of your hand and lead us with your love. We commit all that is happening to us and around us to You and ask that You would be Lord over it all, for your name and glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
