Minute Devotions: Loving Correction

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you – Psalms 32:8

Correction is rarely fun. It generally comes on the back of having done something wrong, or incorrectly, and if we are honest, we rarely if ever enjoy it. It can be painful. But it’s also necessary. In order to keep our hearts right and our actions right, we need to be corrected when we go off track. It’s not a form of punishment but of love; when you love someone you want them to do well and succeed, so you gently correct them and steer them in the right direction when they stumble. This is God’s heart for us. He loves us too much to leave us walking a path of destruction and pain. He gently steers us back on track with His gracious right hand so that we can walk in His love and light. If you feel God has been correcting you lately, don’t be discouraged. Rather, be encouraged in knowing that His eye is ever on you making sure you don’t get too off track and His correction is a result of His abundant love for you.

Father God, thank you that You never sleep or slumber and Your eye is ever on us, guarding us and guiding us. Thank you that You love us too much to leave us where we are. Would you give us eyes to see where you are leading us and a spirit that is willing to follow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
