Minute Devotions: An easy yoke

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28‭-‬30 NKJV

Life can be tough. Life can be hard and tiring and exhausting. No matter who you are, life has a way at throwing random curve balls at us that leave us juggling multiple balls in the air while trying to catch our breath!

But here’s the thing: we don’t have to go it alone. Not only were we never supposed to carry the burdens of life alone, we were never meant to carry them at all. Jesus was. Jesus always was and always will be the one that is meant to carry the burdens, that’s why He came down and took up the Cross. Jesus Himself knew the pain and heartache and weariness of life, which was why He invited us to exchange our burdens for His; His yoke is easy and His burden is light and He wants us to exchange the heaviness we carry for the lightness that only He can provide. He wants to walk alongside of you, His beloved daughter and child, and give you comfort and peace.

So if you are weighed down today with the burdens of life. If life is hard and your heart is hurting, can I encourage you to take up the invitation from Jesus and take us the rest He offers; accept His invitation to rest and to exchange your heavy burdens for His light yoke. And rest in the knowledge that today and every other day, your Father in Heaven has you in the palm of His hand.

Lord, thank you that in You, we can find rest. That through Jesus, peace and rest is found and we can exchange our heavy burdens with your easy yoke and know that You have us firmly in the palm of your hand. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for the peace and comfort that you bring whenever we come to your Throne of Grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
