Minute Devotions: Wait on the Lord

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
Psalm 40:1‭-‬2 ESV

God is not a passive or idle God. He doesn’t just sit on his throne and watch humanity go by. It’s easy to think that, especially when we see humanity at its worst. But that’s no who God is. He’s an active God that not only inclines his ears to us, but responds when we cry out.

Like the psalmist tells us, God will lift us up out of the miry clay. He will set us on solid rock. He will guard and guide us with His mighty hand. But we need to call on him and we need to wait patiently. I don’t wait we’ll, but I’ve learnt that I can’t rush God. I need to just wait and trust Him. And when I do, He won’t fail me. He will act and keep me secure. And He’ll do the same for you. Wait patiently and trust that He’ll come through, because he will.

Father, thank you that you are a God who not only listens but acts. You don’t leave us where we are but guide us to solid ground. We ask you to be Lord over our situation and to guard and protect us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
