Because He lives.

Sunday is here. I often think of the despair and heartache the disciples felt on Friday as they watched Jesus on the cross. Taking His last breath, I imagine they looked on in disbelief. How could this have happened? The Messiah they had waited for, dead. Hope for freedom, gone. As they retreated to their safe place of hiding, I imagine they would have felt a heartache so deep, they felt it to the depths of their soul. As I read the gospels, I want to scream at them to hold on because hope is not lost. We know what … Continue reading Because He lives.

Minute devotions: He is Risen.

He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay – Matthew 28:6 Resurrection Sunday. First came the pain of Friday, then came the victory of Sunday. After three days of silence and darkness, the grave is empty and death has been defeated. Jesus has conquered the final battle, death, and made a way for freedom and eternal life for us. It sounds crazy, this tale that a man would lay dead for three days and then be resurrected back to life and raised to heaven. But this isn’t a crazy story … Continue reading Minute devotions: He is Risen.

Minute Devotions: Palms of Grace

So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” – John 12:13 ESV Palm Sunday. Around the world, thousands will stop to acknowledge Palm Sunday, the day where Jesus walked straight towards what would be the most painful experience of His earthly life; being tortured and hung on a cross to die. It was the day that Jesus triumphantly returned to Jerusalem to meet His death and was met by cheers of ‘Hosanna, blessed is He who … Continue reading Minute Devotions: Palms of Grace

Easter Consideration.

I was reading a devotional the other day and I came across this verse: For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls – Hebrews 12:3 (NKJV) As I sat and pondered the verse, my eyes kept going back to the first few words: For consider Him. Consider Him. As I sat there staring at the words, I asked myself how often I consider Him. Really consider Him, not just say some quick thanks for the day and for my food and for safety. But really stop and consider Jesus. How often do I stop … Continue reading Easter Consideration.

My Easter heart

Easter is here. It feels like we barely got through Christmas and New Year, and now the hot cross buns are all over the place and Easter eggs have become a staple at every meal, and in some cases, replacing the meal itself. That could just be me, but whatever, it’s still food, right? The shopping centres are pulsing with people rushing around trying to get their shopping done and pick up excessive amounts of chocolate to hand out to people. You would think the apocalypse is coming with the way people are running around the grocery isles. Needless … Continue reading My Easter heart
