Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. – Psalm 27:14 (NIV)
I’m not good at waiting. Most people I know aren’t good at waiting, either. We live in an instant society that doesn’t promote patience but tells us that time waits for no man and that to sit back and wait means you miss out on what you want. Yet, God’s Word tells us clearly, time and again, to wait. To stop. Pause. To listen and wait on God. We want what we want, but is what we want the best thing for us? Will getting everything we want, when we want it, glorify God?
The writer of Psalm 27, King David was a man of action. He knew the challenges of waiting, however more than that, he knew the faithfulness of God. His words are a reminder and an encouragement to stop and wait on God. To be strong and courageous in waiting. To not lose hope when prayers don’t feel like they are being answered, but to trust in God. To wait on God is to trust in His faithfulness. God promises that He will never leave or forsake us, and He is faithful to His promises.
God doesn’t tell us to wait for the sake of it. God is aware of what is happening in our lives. He knows the things we are experiencing and what we are waiting for. And in His kindness, He wants to help and guide us. So, when you are facing discouragement or feel like you are alone, remember that God is still working. He hasn’t forgotten you. He is for you. Just wait on Him and watch Him work in your life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we know that You see all things, know all things, and have our best interests in heart. We thank You for always working things together for our good. Holy Spirit, please lead us, guide us, and fill us with Your peace as we stop and wait on You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
