The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

When David wrote this psalm, he was shepherding his sheep. It was his responsibility to look after the sheep and make sure they had everything they needed. It was through this lens that he saw God; as a good Shepherd who looked after him and cared for him. A Good Shepherd who made sure David had everything he needed.

Like He was for David, God is also our Good Shepherd. In the same way that God cared for David and provided for him, He cares for us and provides for us. He looks after us, making sure we have everything we need. When we walk with Jesus, we have everything our soul needs. We won’t always have everything we want in life. God is not some magician in the sky that is there to meet fulfil our every wish. No, with God, we have a loving Heavenly Father who gives us everything our soul needs; unconditional love, peace, joy, salvation, and redemption.

When we allow Jesus to be our Good Shepherd, we have everything we need because we have Him. He is with us always. Loving us, carrying us through, protecting us, and filling us with His peace.

Prayer

Lord, thank you that You are our Good Shepherd and with You, we have everything we need. Thank you for Your love and peace. Would you lead, guide, and protect us, for Your glory and Your purposes. In Jesus’s name, amen.
