It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them – Psalm 44:3
My Nan used to always say, “No one will ever love you more or defend you better than God. The battle belongs to Him, so let him fight it.” It took me a while to understand the depth and truth of that statement, but once I fully grasped it, it allowed me to step back from a situation and hand it to God to deal with.
It’s not always to remain silent and not defend yourself. It’s also difficult to not take matters into your own hands and try to control a situation. But God is the one with infinite power, not us. He is the Almighty One that holds the world in the palm of His hand. He is the one that tells the waves when to stop on the shore (Job 38:8-11), and the one that the wind and waves listen to (Mark 4:35-41).
God is the great defender. Whenever you find yourself in the battle and you want to take matters into your own hands verbally and physically, can I encourage you to stop and fight the battle spiritually. Get on your knees and surrender to God. Give it to Him and sit back and watch him fight for you. You may not see it happen right away, and it may look different to how you would have wanted him to do it, but trust that He is God. He is more powerful than us. And He is the only one who genuinely has the best interests of every person involved.
Lord, thank you that you are God, and you love us. Thank you for being for us, and you fight for us. Lord, we surrender ourselves to you. We give you our lives and our situations and ask you to be Lord over it all. We love you Lord, and we need you. Have your way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
